Dependence

As a mother of three and running a home daycare, I was all about teaching independence ~ independence to put on shoes, to zip zippers, to tidy up toys, etc.

The goal that I had for my own children was that they'd be indepenent to do their own laundry, be able to cook for themselves, to be able to budget their own finances, amoung many other things. These are all good goals to have but now that my children are grown and I look back I wonder if I had too much focus on teaching my children indepenence, and not enough focus on teaching them to be God dependent.

My mom often likes to share with others that as a child my first sentence was "Sheri do it herself!" It was always a cute story, but reflecting back on it now the question that arises is, Is This Really How God Wants Us To Live? And how many of us walk through life daily saying " (insert your name here) do it her/him-self?"

Should we not be saying "with God's help all things are possible."?

Is not the source of original sin that got us to where we all are today from when Adam and Eve said "we will decide for ourselves what is good and what is not good."?

When I read through God's Word there is nowhere that I can see God speaking to His children saying "you are on your own for this one." "you got yourself into this mess, you'll have to get yourself out of it."

This is NOT Who God is at all! In fact He tells us the opposite OVER and OVER again from the bigenning of His Book all the way through to the end!

"Come to ME all you who are weary and I will give you rest..."

"ask and it will be given"

"seek and you will find"

"knock and it shall be opened to you..."

"do not fear, I will help you"

"trust in Me with all your heart, submit to me, and I will make your path straight"

As we get to know God and Who He truly is we will discover that He actually wants us to be dependent!

We should rely on each other. We need each other! We need love and support! It is good to have close friends and family that you can rely on when in need but what we all need to remember is that people will always let us down no matter how much they love us. So be gracious and forgiving when someone lets you down because you too have let others down and you too will in the future let others down, it is our sinful flawed nature.

BUT Jesus, He will NEVER let us down, His Word holds true and His Love endures forever conquering all! He will never leave you nor forsake you, He is always waiting with open arms of grace.

Notice that I did not say that we should depend upon other people, but I said that we need to rely on other people. There is only One Who we can always depend upon, there is only One Who is faithful.

So should you make it your choice to become God dependent ~dependent of the One True Living God, The God of Abraham, Issac and Jacob, The Great I AM, then you will see that your Joy will be made full no matter what life throws at you.

Jesus Himself said "in Me you may have Peace, in the world you will have tribulation, but be of good cheer as I have overcome the world." John 16:33
